Aggressive, Powerful, Acrobatic... these are adjectives not often used when describing winters steelhead. Thankfully there is a place where winter steelhead fit all these attributes.

The fight and stamina of the steelhead that inhabit the Queen Charlotte islands have often been compared to the much heralded runs of summer fish that grace both the Thompson and Dean rivers. These fish are considered the hottest of the hottest, pound for pound; the ultimate salmonid, a rare bread set apart and above the par. Haida Gwaii Steelhead are among these rare un-spoiled, un-tamed
strains of pure wild steelhead and yet... fairly undiscovered.

As for the fishing conditions, consider the Olympic Peninsula, or perhaps Vancouver Island about 50 years ago. Rich tea colored waters serpentining through stands of moss covered virgin rain forests and, of course, the steelhead that still swim in healthy numbers through it all. This is a rare, beautiful place still abounding in wild life, the way it used to be, the way it should be.

Regardless if your preference leans towards fly fishing or to conventional gear, the Queen Charlotte Island steelhead experience is a must do for any ardent river angler. This place has all the attributes that most anglers crave; un-spoiled waters, un-tamed wilderness and un-leashed steelhead. Come to the Masset House and experience frontier steelheading the way it should be...
