Wildlife

Often called "the northern Galapagos," the Charlottes are home to many unique species of plants and animals.  The Queen Charlotte Islands offer superb opportunities for viewing of marine and land animals.  Sitka Blacktail Deer, Bald Eagles and Black Bears can be readily seen along the banks of the many salmon bearing streams and on the rocky forested beaches.

On the main path of the Pacific flyway, the islands are a great place to add to your bird list.  Certainly there are a great variety of seabirds that you'll see while on the fishing grounds but you can count on a good number of songbirds and migratory species as well.

A short hike into the rainforest will explain why Haida Gwaii is seen as one of the last great frontiers of the world.  Red Cedar and Sitka Spruce trees , some more than 500 years old, tower above the deep mossy carpet of the forest floor.
